Its kinda hard to do anything exciting with a TFT screen. A window at the back of the screen wouldn't look too hot and also wouldn't be visible all that well. Illumination around the screen area with neon wire while easy would distract too much from work. After lots of thought I settled with some less invasive and distracting solution.
A closeup of the illuminated socket of the display. The semi transparent disk of plastic is illuminated by 8 ultra bright LEDs. They are powered by 2 mini batteries that fit neatly into the disk in order to avoid any unnecessary wires.
